In the Fall of 2025, Jasper was hopeful and excited to start his education abroad journey in the United States. A 10th grader from Germany who originally planned to attend school in Seattle, Jasper was offered a placement in Tacoma, WA instead. Being presented with the offer, Jasper weighed the options and decided to embrace the new opportunity with curiosity and warmth.
Jasper approached every part of his experience with reflection and humor. His world and mind expanded not only from exciting adventures, but also from everyday moments, like learning to share a bathroom, adapting to new household rules, and integrating into the dynamic and culture of his new host family. He approached each learning opportunity with his host family and at school with a positive attitude.
The gratitude Jasper feels towards his host family and for the experience was beautifully captured in a handwritten thank-you note that he sent to his host parents, Anastasia and Larry, at the end of his program. Stories like Jasper’s remind us of how meaningful international exchange programs are and how special the connections are that are formed during the experience.
Jasper’s natural mother also shared with Anastasia and Larry how much her son had grown and changed during his time in Tacoma and how much the experience meant to their family. She wrote that Jasper “had changed so much, and for the better,” and expressed deep gratitude for the warm, supportive home they provided.
